(2) One such plant is grapes whose stem is thin, long, and weak. It climbs up with the help of a wall or rope. It is called a climber.

(3) Money plant also has a long but weak stem. Money plant is classified as a climber, i.e. the plant with a weak stem that cannot stand upright and climb with the help of a support.

Q7 ) What is the function of a stem in a plant?

The functions of the stem in a plant are given below :

(I) It supports the plant to the stand-up right.

(II) It transports water, minerals and food in a different parts of the plant.

(III) Sometimes the food is stored in the stem. Examples: potato, ginger etc.

(IV) It supports branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits.

(V) Some time stems are modified to give additional support by stem tendrils.

(VI) In cactus plant stem is modified to make food. In cactus plant stem contain chlorophyll.
