For each characteristic indicate whether it is adaptation for tropical rainforests or polar regions. Do you think that some of these characteristics can be adapted for both regions?
NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 7 Weather Climate And Adaptations Of Animals To Climate
Answer :
(i) Diets heavy on fruits : Tropical rain forests
(ii) White fur : Polar regions
(iii) Need to migrate : Polar regions
(iv) Loud voice : Tropical rain forests
(v) Sticky pads on feet : Tropical rain forests
(vi) The layer of fat under skin : Polar regions
(vii) Wide and large paws : Polar regions
(viii) Bright colours : Tropical rain forests

Answer :
(1) The tropical rainforest has a large population of animals due to favorable climatic conditions and the easy availability of different kinds of foods.
(2) The tropical region has a hot climate because of its location around the equator.
(3) The minimum temperature in this region is 15°C. During hot summers, the temperature may cross 40°C. Days and nights are almost equal in length throughout the year.
(4) These regions are hot and humid with ample rainfall which supports the growth of animals and plants.
Q.8 Explain, with examples, why we find animals of certain kind living in particular climatic conditions.
NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 7 Weather Climate And Adaptations Of Animals To Climate
Answer :
(1) We find animals of certain kinds living in particular climatic conditions because every living organism is adapted to live in a particular habitat.
(2) Animals of different kinds live in particular climatic conditions according to their survival and interaction with the environment. They develop their feature according to the area they live in.
(3) For example, a polar bear is adapted for polar regions. It has thick skin and a layer of fat to keep it warm in cold conditions. However, with these adaptations, it will not be possible for it to survive in tropical regions where it is hot.
(4) Similarly, a monkey is adapted to live in the forests with features such as a long and sturdy tail, loud voice, etc. These features are of no importance in polar regions where vegetation is very little.
(5) Thus, animals of a certain kind live in particular climatic conditions.
