Why do ionic compounds have high melting points ?


Answer :

Oppositely charged ions are present in ionic compounds and are bounded by a strong electrostatic force of attraction.This is because a considerable amount of energy is required to break this force of attraction. That’s why ionic compounds have high melting points.
