You are given kerosene, turpentine and water. In which of these does the light travel fastest ? Use the information given in Table :

Answer :

n(kerosene) = 1.44
n( turpentine)= 1.47

n(water) = 1.33

\(\therefore \) Light travels faster in a medium having low optical density and here we have water with the lowest optical density(lowest refractive index), therefore light travels fastest in this optically rarer medium than kerosene and turpentine oil.
