3. 5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

Answer :

Given that 5x + 9 = 5 + 3x
\(\Rightarrow\) 5x – 3x + 9 = 5 (Transposing 3x to LHS) => 2x + 9 = 5

\(\Rightarrow\) 2x = 5 – 9 (Transposing 9 to RHS)

\(\Rightarrow\) 2x = -4

\(\Rightarrow\) x = -4 ÷ 2 = -2

Hence x = -2 is the required solution.

Checking:

5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

Substituting x = -2 in the given equation, we have

LHS = 5 × (-2) + 9 = -10 + 9 = -1

RHS = 5 + 3 × (-2) = 5 – 6 = -1

LHS = RHS

Hence x = -2 is the required solution.
